In 2011, Flower City Habitat is partnered with Veterans Outreach Center to support the servicemen and women of our community by building a Habitat house with a low-income veteran Ronald, an honorable discharged army serviceman. Ron is a single father raising his two youngest children, Victoria and Kristopher.
The service organizations of Rochester joined together to help fundraise for this exciting new build. Individuals, organizations, clubs, and companies were invited to form teams and support the home construction for a local Rochester Veteran. Teams signed up online and created easy and personalized fundraising webpages that can were sent to family and friends to acquire supporting donations.
July 11-17th 2011 was Navy Week, celebrated each year at the ESL International Airshow. Flower City Habitat and Veterans Outreach Center hosted a groundbreaking event on Tuesday, July 12th and a salute to current service men on Thursday, July 14th celebrating the launch of construction. We thank that all the involved teams who joined us to commemorate this monumental event in the life of a local veteran and his family.
In the fall of 2012, Flower City Habitat dedicated Ronald's house with supporters, volunteers, and family.
Though we currently are not hosting a Veteran Build, if you would like to help us start another this year, contact Teresa Bianchi at (585) 546-1470 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
