Volunteering in the ReStore

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Habitat ReStore is a retail store of new and used home improvement donations that are for sale to the public with 100% of proceeds going to support Flower City Habitat for Humanity building mission. Volunteers play a major role in helping to keep the store stocked, clean, neat and functioning efficiently and professionally. Safety is important, and is emphasized no matter what task a volunteer performs.

 ReStore Donation Data Entry Volunteer

Summary
You don't need a hammer and construction boots to build homes with Flower City Habitat for Humanity! Lend a hand at the Habitat ReStore, a second-hand home improvement store helping to raise funds to build more houses in the Rochester community through the sale of gently used donations.

At Habitat, our volunteers make it happen. Each volunteer’s efforts play a role in raising the roof of Habitat homes. Right now, we're looking for regular volunteers to provide support and leadership in the area of donation data entry. If it’s your first time – no need to worry – volunteers can count on shadowing and asking questions until they are comfortable working on their own.
 
Ample training will be provided as needed.
 
Duties
  • Sort and organize ReStore donation forms
  • Enter all donation data into our database
  • Generate donation acknowledgements
 
Skills/Requirements
  • Must be 18+ years or older
  • Must be honest and trustworthy with confidential information
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Able to follow directions
  • Able dress in business casual attire
  • Able to work alongside and help a wide range of volunteers, donors and customers with diverse backgrounds
  • Able to sit at a computer for long periods of time
  • Able to type efficiently
 
Skills Desired
  • Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity's mission
  • Able to decipher various handwritings
  • Experience with data entry or desire to learn this new skill

Time Commitment
It’s flexible – we’ll work with your schedule! Volunteers are welcome as little or as often as they like. We are in immediate need for volunteers who can commit to a weekly shift.

ReStore Driving Assistant
 
ReStore Driving Assistants travel throughout the Greater Rochester area picking up building materials, appliances and other similar donated items. These assistants make it possible for the ReStore to constantly update its inventory, and help promote positive interactions with donors in the community.
 
This position will include accepting donations directly from donors’ homes with an emphasis on what we accept and do not accept. Staff will assist the volunteer in learning what a "good" donation entails.
 
Ample training will be provided as needed.
 
Duties:
  • Responsible for maintaining a good relationship with both frequent and first-time donors
  • Assist truck driver by loading and unloading vehicles by hand or by use of hand-truck/dolly
  • Stack and secure items in position on truck to prevent damage during transport
  • Assist in care and maintenance of truck interior and cargo area
  • Perform other duties as required by managers or driver
 
Requirements
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to follow directions
 
Skills Desired:
  • Experience driving a box truck

General ReStore Volunteers

General ReStore volunteers are needed on our operating days to assist with sorting and preparing donations, pricing, re-stocking and tidying up shelves and the sales floor, and with assisting customers with loading purchases or finding their way around the store.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and are needed on a regular basis. Shifts are as follows: Monday - Friday 10AM - 2PM or 2PM - 7PM and Saturday 9AM - 1PM or 1PM - 5PM.
