Building with Books

The Building with Books program was introduced during the 2006-2007 school year with a two-fold purpose:

    Student with books
  1. To give our future homeowners' children the opportunity to earn sweat equity hours and contribute to the pride of ownership in their Habitat home.
  2. To encourage reading among the children of our homeowner families.

Criteria for participation in this program are:

  1. Children have free choice of author, title and subject at an appropriate reading level.
  2. A Building with Books packet will be submitted to the School/Youth Committee through the Habitat office at the Public Market.
  3. When the child's packet is approved, s/he will receive a certificate recognizing the hours earned.
  4. Each approved packet will earn the homeowner family one sweat equity hour.
  5. A future homeowner's child or children may earn up to a total of 25 hours.
  6. Once children have earned their maximum number of sweat equity hours, other prizes such as books will be awarded as an additional incentive.
