Building with Books
The Building with Books program was introduced during the 2006-2007 school year with a two-fold purpose:
- To give our future homeowners' children the opportunity to earn sweat equity hours and contribute to the pride of ownership in their Habitat home.
- To encourage reading among the children of our homeowner families.
Criteria for participation in this program are:
- Children have free choice of author, title and subject at an appropriate reading level.
- A Building with Books packet will be submitted to the School/Youth Committee through the Habitat office at the Public Market.
- When the child's packet is approved, s/he will receive a certificate recognizing the hours earned.
- Each approved packet will earn the homeowner family one sweat equity hour.
- A future homeowner's child or children may earn up to a total of 25 hours.
- Once children have earned their maximum number of sweat equity hours, other prizes such as books will be awarded as an additional incentive.
