About the Project

It takes 4 to 4-1/2 months to build a 3 or 4 bedroom one-story home of 1,100 to 1,400 square feet. Each home is equipped with the following:

  • ADT Security System
  • Concrete driveway
  • Front porch and back porch/patio
  • Refrigerator, stove, furnace, hot water heater, full bath
  • One storm/screen door
  • Choice of color for siding, trim, carpet and vinyl flooring
  • Mailbox
  • Temporary fence at rear of backyard

Typical Construction Plan

The following table lists typical construction tasks by week. Construction work is subject to change due to a variety of factors. Patience and flexibility on the part of sponsor volunteers is appreciated, and helps the tasks flow smoothly.

Erect roof trusses, install roof sheathing (moderate to heavy lifting)

7 Build porches, install windows and doors
8 Rough-in heating, electrical, and plumbing
9 Install siding and gutters
10 Install insulation
11 Hang and finish drywall
12 Hang and finish drywall
13 Sand, prep and prime drywall, install trim, finish painting
14 Finish heating, electrical and plumbing; install carpet and flooring
15 Landscaping
