Steering Committee

The steering committee promotes communication and coordination among all of the project participants. It oversees the project and insures that each committee is performing its task.

Ultimately, the sponsor determines what committees are necessary for the success of your project. At the least, someone should be charged with financial dealings between the sponsor and FCHH. If you plan to send volunteers to help with building your house, a Volunteer Committee is highly recomended.

Members are responsible for encouraging group/company participation in the project through fundraising, volunteering, securing in-kind contributions, etc. The steering committee maintains the relationship between the sponsor group and Habitat staff.

Tips

Publish a directory of committee members and important contacts and distribute it to every member of the steering committee, and a back-up person. Provide this list to FCHH staff to aid in facilitating eficient communicaiton throughout the project.

Stay one step ahead of what is happening. Anticipate and begin preparing for events on the horizon.
