Today we took time to celebrate with Habitat’s next homeowner and the sponsors who made this nearly-complete renovation possible. Just a few items to finish up and then it’ll be time to close on an affordable mortgage and move in!
Learn more about Jonathan's path to homeownership, Donald's generous decision to sponsor this house, and others who played critical roles in the transformation of this formerly vacant home into an opportunity and asset for Jonathan and the JOSANA Neighborhood. Monroe County is currently seeking input on how to spend $144M among six key focus areas, with housing included in one of them.
Flower City Habitat joins Monroe County in asking those who live, work, or play in the county to complete a short online survey to choose your top three. We encourage everyone to take a few moments to learn more about these priority areas and complete the online survey today. (Priorities are defined in the survey.) Flower City Habitat for Humanity has joined local Habitat affiliates from all 50 states and the District of Columbia who are calling on the lead negotiators of the Build Back Better Act to keep housing priorities in the bill. In a letter delivered to congressional leaders today, Habitat is outlining specific priorities that would invest in the nation’s housing infrastructure by boosting supply of affordable homes for both rental and homeownership and creating new opportunities to access those homes for lower-income families.
“Habitat works in communities all across this country — urban, suburban and rural — and we are speaking with one voice: Congress must deliver transformative housing investments in the Build Back Better Act,” said Jonathan T.M. Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. “Housing investments are fundamental to health, economic mobility and racial equity, and must continue to be a core tenet of the nation’s plan to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and begin to address decades of disinvestment in safe, decent and affordable places to live.” The more than 375 Habitat organizations are calling on Congress to support six specific legislative initiatives that will boost affordable homeownership. Habitat is acting through its Cost of Home campaign, which is working to improve housing affordability for 10 million people. “Stable, affordable homes are indispensable for Americans’ health, education and well-being,” the Habitat organizations wrote. “Investing in our nation’s housing infrastructure by building and preserving homes for affordable homeownership will fortify our communities and broaden economic recovery. Habitat urges Congress to prioritize these housing investments to ensure no one and no community is left behind as we build back from the pandemic.”
Employees from Excellus BCBS joined us again today to build and raise second floor walls at 375 Campbell Street. The day started with great team work to lift walls, OSB boards, and exterior insulation up to the second floor and continued with lots of hammering, cutting, and lifting walls into place!
375 Campbell Street is the 250th Habitat home in Monroe County and is sponsored by Excellus BCBS, who is providing financial and volunteer support to make this home possible. Today we were excited to join Greentopia and Green Visions for the ribbon cutting of their new outdoor classroom! This new addition done in partnership with Flower City Habitat enables Green Visions to provide a safe outdoor training space for Green Visions participants and a future gathering space open to the community.
"Greentopia and Green Visions are very grateful to Flower City Habitat for Humanity for all the work they did in creating a more beautiful and open campus that better serves the JOSANA neighborhood. We are grateful to our donors, especially United Way, Rochester Area Community Foundation and The Davenport Hatch Foundation who made this addition to the Green Visions Campus possible." It was a big week for volunteers from the Perinton Congregations as we prepared for arrival and installed the roof trusses at 871 Smith Street!
Over the past several weeks, CoreLogic employees joined us for four sponsored team building days, helping install foundation footers, subflooring, and first floor walls at 375 Campbell Street.
After the fourth build day, Christine M. Cruso, Leader, Operations for CoreLogic shared, "We enjoyed the opportunity to partner with your colleagues while impacting the lives of others in our community. Habitat for Humanity efforts will help change the life of many families by ensuring they can continue their journey toward financial independence and home ownership and truly living out the rallying call CoreLogic has by helping people Find, Acquire and Protect their homes. We look forward to next year, and continued success for you throughout the year!" Through their financial support and volunteer efforts, CoreLogic is helping us continue to build homeownership, communities, and hope in Rochester. Thank you CoreLogic! ![]() As construction continues at 375 Campbell Street, WROC-TV visited for an update on the 250th Habitat home in Monroe County, a home made possible by the sponsorship of Excellus BCBS. Melissa Gardner, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Chief Population Health Engagement Officer, Matthew Flanigan, Flower City Habitat for Humanity President & CEO, and Marty Kranmer, an Excellus BCBS IT manager (and first time volunteer) were among those interviewed. |
