Women Build launches cookbook fundraiser to support construction at 195 Melville StreetWomen Build 2022 is kicking off strong, with our first 6 teams already signed up, over $20,000 raised, and our first creative fundraiser starting today!
The "Simply Homemade" cookbook contains recipes for comfort food that were gathered from Women Build volunteers, supporters, and Habitat staff members. Try some delicious new dishes in this 85-page book! You will find selections for appetizers, soups, salads, main dishes, side dishes, breads, and desserts, all tested in the home kitchens of the people who submitted the recipes. Plus helpful tips like definitions of cooking terms, an equivalents chart, and pages devoted to cooking and eating healthfully, too! The cost is $10 per book and all net proceeds will support the 2022 Women Build house at 195 Melville Street! (Net proceeds will be attributed to team goals after the sale ends.) Get one for yourself or as a gift today! You can help build the 18th Women Build house in Rochester! Since 1991, Women Build volunteers from all walks of life have come together to build stronger, safer communities with Habitat affiliates around the world. Each year in Rochester, teams of women (and a handful of men) combine their fundraising efforts and volunteer build days to make another Habitat home possible. This year's Women Build house will be a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath new home being built at 195 Melville Street (the vacant lot shown in this picture) and you can help build it! Fundraising is going on now and volunteering is expected to start in April. Learn how you can get involved by clicking the button below! For more information on the house and how to get notified when homebuyer applications open, click the button below.
We’re celebrating with the next Habitat homeowner and members of Habitat’s Women Build program, the sponsors who made this nearly-complete new build possible. Just a few items to finish up and then it’ll be time to close on an affordable mortgage and move in!

Construction kicks off on the 2020 Women Build house!Women Build is back on the construction sites and working on the 16th Women Build house! This year's new home is being built at 423 Jay Street and will be a two-story, five-bedroom home that will be purchased by a hard-working Habitat family. (more on the family soon!)
The following photos were taken during the first week of construction (July 1-9), and as you can see we are already making great progress! Women Build is currently recruiting individuals and teams to help build this house. Large in-person events are much less likely to happen this year, so we need to rely more on creative fundraising – including small donations. To help illustrate how impactful each donation is, we have compiled a “catalog” of some common materials that we use in building the Women Build house. We have included example items in several donation ranges for you to consider. These are suggestions to help guide your donation, but you can always donate any amount that is comfortable for you. Take a look at the suggested amounts below, and go to this link to choose your item or to make a general donation: https://give.rochesterhabitat.org/ge/wbfundraising Or send a check, with Women Build in the memo line to: Flower City Habitat for Humanity Attn: Women Build 755 Culver Road Rochester NY 14609 We know that the global pandemic has had adverse effects on everyone. Please know that we will welcome donations in any amount. $5 and $10 gifts will help immensely. Your gift in any amount will help us buy all of the necessary construction materials and will enable Women Build teams to construct a lovely, safe, energy-efficient home for a hard-working family. We thank you for your support and generosity! Our goal for our 2020 house at 423 Jay Street is $75,000. As of July 1, we have raised over $29,000 toward this goal. Where there was once five empty lots, there are now five nearly completed homes!
Five home dedication ceremonies have been scheduled:
On the volunteering side, there is still some work left to do and we have opened several house sponsor and public volunteer shifts leading up to the dedications. Take a look at the whiteboard to see what to expect and email us if you have any questions! Construction volunteer shifts are open now for public construction, Women Build, and three Faith Builds. Sign-up today! Side porch framing and interior drywall installed at 105 Holworthy Street (Fastrac / Bank of America / Women Build)The snow definitely didn't seem to bother the NAWIC Women Build team! The side porch is now framed and interior drywall almost done!
NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) is obviously a great fit for our Women Build program, but you don't have to have any experience to build with us. Learn more about Women Build at: www.rochesterhabitat.org/womenbuild Front porch decking and interior drywall installed at 105 Holworthy Street (Fastrac / Bank of America / Women Build)The Women Build Steering Committee braved the cold to work on the front porch decking and interior drywall at 105 Holworthy Street.
Fastrac, Bank of America, and Women Build have all contributed financially and with volunteer hours to make 105 Holworthy possible; but the Women Build teams have been volunteering multiple days every week throughout the build. Because of this dedicated volunteer force, 105 Holworthy is the furthest along of the four new homes being build on Holworthy Street! Interested in volunteering with Women Build?
