ReStore Deconstruction team

​We're constructing a crew of volunteers to help deconstruct kitchens!

Volunteers will assist in the safe, physical removal of material donations from donors’ homes/buildings to reduce the costs of home-improvement and raise funds for Flower City Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building decent affordable housing.
Purpose:
  • Assist in the safe, physical removal of material donations from donors’ homes/buildings to reduce the costs of home-improvement and raise funds for Flower City Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building homeownership, communities, and hope.
  • Donated kitchen cabinets and major appliances are removed and sold at our two Habitat ReStore locations!
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Works and communicates as part of a team to remove cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, lighting, appliances, and other items from donated homes/buildings.
  • Assists with moving product to staging area and/or truck, as needed.
  • Respects the donor’s home/building and appropriately represents Habitat for Humanity.  This includes confidentiality of names and items donated.
 
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience or skills in at least one of the following areas:
    • General handy person
    • Construction, remodeling, electrical work, and/or plumbing
    • Ability to operate power tools and equipment
  • Comfortable in learning how to safely and efficiently deconstruct cabinetry, plumbing, HVAC, and appliances
  • Willing to travel: use personal vehicle to travel to deconstruction projects throughout Monroe County
  • Ideal for volunteers to bring their own tools for use at deconstruction projects, though many hand tools, power tools, ladders, etc. will be provided by Habitat.

Time Commitment:
  • Usually 4-8 hours per project, as scheduled (starting monthly, moving towards weekly)
  • First preference will go to volunteers that can work with our ReStore team to set a regular schedule
  • Remaining spots will be sent to our "on call" team (we notify you when a project is scheduled, RSVP as you can)

  2. Fill out our volunteer application to update your interests and availability. (If you already have a volunteer account with us, click the login button at the top right, then return to the volunteer application link.)
  3. See if you can join us for our next volunteer information session to learn more and see if this volunteer opportunity is a good fit for you.
  4. As needed, everyone who has filled out a volunteer application will be notified when projects are scheduled that match their availability and interests.
