Success Stories

Tyne and Tristan

Tyne and Tristan had been sharing a second-floor apartment that suddenly posed new challenges following a serious car accident in 2016. The accident left Tyne with multiple injuries including damage to her legs and a traumatic brain injury. This, after a divorce in 2014 left her financially devastated.

With the goal of buying a home, Tyne applied to the homeownership program in August 2021, but was first accepted into Habitat’s HOPE program, which helped Tyne establish a schedule to save for and pay off her debts. After succeeding in HOPE and becoming mortgage ready, Tyne was accepted into Habitat’s homeownership program in July 2022.

Tyne grew up in Rochester and graduated from Rush-Henrietta. She has worked in the human services fields and education for her entire career. She also recently obtained her CRPA, CASAC, CRC to further her knowledge in her career in substance use and domestic violence counseling.

Tristan is 16 years old, non-binary and autistic, intelligent, witty, caring, enjoys the outdoors and is an accomplished photographer and artist.

“As a mom of this child who didn’t talk for the first five years and who watched them struggle so much, I am incredibly proud of their accomplishments. Tristan has a 99.5% average in school.” shared Tyne.

Tyne and Tristan are making this their forever home.
