What is sweat equity?
Sweat equity is a required part of our homebuyer program. In addition to having a need for better housing, and the ability to pay an affordable mortgage, Habitat homebuyers partner with us through sweat equity. We're grateful to provide affordable homeownership opportunities to Habitat homebuyers that truly help lift themselves, their families, and their community; and each homebuyer with Flower City Habitat contributes a minimum of 300 hours.
Sweat equity hours are attained through financial classes, home maintenance classes, construction (helping build their own home and/or their neighbor's, if physically able), ReStore, speaking at Habitat events, "Building With Books" (our children's reading program), and volunteering with other (pre-approved) community organizations. |
Registration is required, and you must be available for the entire shift. Full day or half-day shifts are available for homebuyers and one guest per day. To schedule yourself, choose one shift. To schedule yourself and a guest, add a second shift (at the same time and location). To schedule your friends and family day (6 guests), contact our Volunteer Manager, Ken Braley at kbraley@rochesterhabitat.org or 585-435-7252.
