Women Build

Coming together to build stronger, safer communities.

About Women Build

Habitat's Women Build program aims to recruit, educate, and empower women to build and advocate for decent and affordable homes.

Since 1991, Women Build volunteers from all walks of life have come together to build stronger, safer communities with Habitat affiliates around the world. Each year teams of women (and a handful of men) combine their fundraising efforts and volunteer build days to make another Habitat home possible.

Any woman who wants to learn how to build and construct a home is invited to join us — no experience is necessary. Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. Whether you are learning new skills or simply adding a few to your tool belt, Women Build is a rewarding experience for all involved, and improves the community that we share.

This year's projects

Women Build 2024 is building their 20th Habitat home in Rochester!

In addition, they will have a number of one day projects throughout Ontario County.

The importance of teams

Women Build teams are central to the Women Build program, it's how they raise money for a new Habitat home each year, and it's how they schedule most of the construction shifts on their house! Teams can be co-workers, friends, family, neighbors, or members of the same congregation or interest group. As a team they set our fundraising and volunteering goals and together build a house!
